🪵 Option 1: Simple Wood Planter Box (Basic Tools Needed)
This classic wooden planter box is great for patios, porches, and gardens. It’s sturdy, stylish, and totally beginner-friendly.
🛠️ What You’ll Need:
(3) 6 ft cedar or pine fence pickets (cut to size)
1¼" exterior wood screws
Drill or screwdriver
Saw (or have wood cut in-store)
Optional: wood sealer or paint
📏 Cut List:
(4) side panels – 24" long
(2) end panels – 12" long
(1) base panel – 22½" x 10½"
(4) corner posts – 12" tall (from 2x2 or scrap wood)
🔧 How to Build It:
Attach the side panels to the corner posts using screws.
Screw the end panels to the corner posts to form the box.
Add the bottom panel or spaced slats for drainage.
Optionally, seal or paint your box for weather protection.
Bonus Tip: If you don’t have a drill, you can use nails or even wood glue and clamps (for light-use decorative planters).
📦 Option 2: Stackable Crate Planter (No Tools Required)
No tools? No problem! This stackable crate method is fast, affordable, and perfect for renters or small spaces.
🧰 What You’ll Need:
(2–3) Wooden crates
Landscape fabric or plastic lining
Optional: zip ties or rope
Optional: paint or wood stain
🪴 How to Assemble It:
Stack the crates vertically or in an L-shape.
Line each crate with landscape fabric or plastic.
Fill with soil and plants—done!
Use zip ties or rope for extra stability if stacking.
Style Tip: Paint the crates to match your porch decor or stencil your family name for a personal touch.
